Personal Update from the Colliflower Family

Many of you may not be aware, but our family relocated to La Cañada in October after living in Altadena for more than 30 years. For the past decade, we had been leasing a home in Altadena, but when the owner decided to sell the property, we needed to find a new place to live. While we were given a year’s notice, we

were unable to find a home in Altadena that met our needs, and the decision to leave was a difficult one.

Altadena has been a significant part of my life. I moved there in 1984 to take on the operation and management of the Altadena and Eaton Canyon Golf Courses. Over the years, it became much more than a place to live; it became home, and leaving was painful. Even though our address no longer ends with 91001, my heart is still in Altadena, and I remain deeply connected to the community.

Eaton Fire Update

As many of you know, the recent wildfires have devastated our community. I want to share that our family is safe, and we were fortunate that our new home was spared. After a brief evacuation, we were able to return safely. For that, we are incredibly grateful, but we’ve been grappling with a sense of survivor’s guilt. Many of our friends and clients were not as fortunate, and sadly, the home we just moved from was one of the properties lost in the fire. Some have even asked me, “What did you know?”

Driving through parts of the community over the last few days has been heartbreaking. Seeing the devastation in person is physically painful. Entire neighborhoods have been altered, and the weight of the loss is hard to put into words. Even though I now live in La Cañada, Altadena remains my home. I’m committed to doing everything I can to assist in the recovery and rebuilding efforts.

A Call for Community Support

I ask for your prayers for everyone who has been impacted by these fires. This is a time for us to come together, to support one another, and to help rebuild the fabric of our community. Whether it’s through donations, volunteering, or simply offering a listening ear, every act of kindness makes a difference.

If there’s anything I can do to assist you or someone you know during this challenging time, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are all in this together, and together, we can move forward.

Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and strength. Let’s continue to support one another as we rebuild and recover.

Warm regards,

Doug Colliflower
